I cannot say enough about how much Twitter has changed my life. I know, 140 characters doesn't seem like much, and when it first came out all I could think about was Ashton Kutcher and his followers. Who knew it would have such a huge impact on educators? Yes, it is big in the celebrity circle and earlier today I was stalking one of my favorite soap opera stars (I did not follow him) but for me as an educator I have grown tremendously. The connections I have made have been invaluable. And truth be told, I enjoy chatting with some of my Twitter friends more than my family.
Just now I was bored and forgot to thaw the chicken for dinner #wifefail. I got on Twitter and popped into a great chat. I honestly at one point tweeted to the moderator "It's like we are one mind" his statements were dead on with my beliefs. I have a new friend in New Jersey who hates homework and grades as much as I do.
Meeting my CatholicEdChat friends at NCEA was life changing experience. I feel like I have made friends for life who are more than just colleagues, they are there for me in prayer and support. And when someone like Alice Keeler favorites one of your tweets it just makes your day and you feel like you have joined that elite group of educators who are changing the world.
We all have something to learn from each other. I have never considered myself an extrovert, I wasn't the popular girl in school. But I am a connected educator. Twitter allows me to "break the ice" with people I normally would never have connected with before. It keeps me at the top of my game. More importantly, it's fun! There are some seriously funny educators out there! It's the place to voice your true feelings about education, the tough days, the difficult parents. We all have them. The stories are the same the names are anonymous, and we can all appreciate each other's struggles and rejoice in each other's accomplishments.
